Feeding Hungry Children

Situated on the southwest side of Island of Hispanola, in the Dominican Republic, Hogar por los Ninos Huerfanos provides daily hot meals to poor children at two locations near the town of Barahona. Nearly two hundred children daily are fed a simple meal. For many of them it will be their only one of the day.

Our two sites consist of Project Numero Uno where we feed primarily Dominicanos in the Bario de Palmarito in Barahona. This site has been operating since 1992. At project "Los Montanitos" located on Bahia de Barahona, we feed primarily Haitien immigrant children, many who have arrived since the Port au Prince earthquake of 2010.

Our cooks, staff and general manager Paulino Paradys Santana, help to sustain the operation, preparing the food, working with the children and maintaining the premises. Along with their part time wages is the cost of food. Today in the Dominican Republic, both rice and beans are selling for nearly one dollar a pound.
